A Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian Unrequited Pairing Fanfic loosely based on Chapter 25-26 and potential spoilers. Also, this is a practice fic. It doesn’t have a full storyline or plot. Ahahaha. Thanks for reading!

Nie Huaisang peered at Mo XuanYu’s figure behind his fan. It felt as if he never joined the spirit world. The only difference is his shorter stature and the overwhelming presence of Han GuangJun beside him. He suppressed a sigh. Where else could Han GuangJun be if not beside Wei WuXian if the rumors were to be believed? He forced his eyes on his fan, trying to avoid Wei Wuxian’s eyes. He had been flustered earlier and felt a little indignant of the fact that Han GuangJun had entered unceremoniously with a flustered Wei Wuxian in his arms. When he finally found his voice, his words came out a little more forceful than intended.

“I really don’t know anything.”

“Even if the castle was within your Sect’s territory?” Huaisang couldn’t help but feel that the voice sounded different. Softer. Younger. Not Wei Wuxian.

Huaisang’s voice quivered, “I.. Really.. Don’t know.. Okay? Please forgive me…” He ducked and cowered, refusing to stand. He was very used to this routine. He didn’t mind Wei Wuxian’s firm hand on his shoulder as he was hoisted to his feet. He had missed that familiar warmth and was sorry that it had to abruptly be taken away.

“Surely, the Sect leader would know something about it.”

The boy in front of him wasn’t Wei Wuxian. His eyes. His face. But it was the same inquiring tone, the same incredulous and mischievous expression. Huaisang pretended to look troubled before distractedly fanning himself. “All right. Well, maybe I know of something. J-just don’t tell another soul, okay?”

A nostalgic expression framed Mo XuanYu’s face. Huaisang hid his face behind his fan. He paused before he finally explained the secret behind the castle.

In reality, Huaisang wanted to laugh. The setup was ironic. He was still the same boy hiding behind young master Wei. He still wanted to feel that overwhelming sense of assurance that emanated from the man who was now in a younger body, a different face, and with a different partner. It had always been Wei Wuxian and Jiang WanYin. Now, it was Lan WangJi who stood beside him.

There was no empty spot for him to fill.

“Han Guang Jun and… You. Surely you can put in a good word when this matter becomes common knowledge,” Huaisang bowed his head as he raised his cupped fist in front of the two. “Please, please, please, keep this between the three of us. Please.”

Huaisang raised his head slightly to peer at Wei Wuxian. “No one should know.” He ducked his head immediately when he accidentally met Lan WangJi’s icy stare. A look that made him feel like looking at Wei Wuxian’s direction offended the second Lan jade. Huaisang attempted to steal another glance only to be blocked by Lan WangJi’s back forcing him to feebly mutter his request as he showed himself out.

Huaisang’s chest was heavy and uncomfortable but he couldn’t help but smile. While his brother’s body has yet to be found, Wei Wuxian was breathing the same air he was. Even if he cannot be the one who stands beside Wei Wuxian to unmask the real evil that lurks in the Carp Tower. Wei Wuxian was alive.

That alone was enough.
